The student portal

  2. For tutors: how to appear in the portal
  3. The "For teachers" page in the portal

The portal (teaching.co.il) is a free search site where students and parents find a private tutor near home. It is separate from the tutor app (app.teaching.co.il). No sign-up is needed to search.

For students and parents: how to search for a tutor

  1. On the home page ("Find a private tutor near you") type your address in "Address or city", for example "1 Herzl St, Tel Aviv". Addresses are suggested as you type.
  2. In "Subject" choose a subject, or leave "Any subject". The subjects: Math, English, Hebrew, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Bible studies, Arabic, Computer science, Music, Psychometric prep and Other.
  3. Tick "Also show online lessons" if remote lessons suit you.
  4. Tap "Search".

The "Search results" screen shows how many tutors were found ("Found 1 tutor" or "Found N tutors"). You can change the address, subject and "Also show online lessons" right on the results screen, and switch between "Show as a list" and "Show on map".

If "No tutors found in this area" appears: try writing the address with the city name, or tick "Also show online lessons".

Who appears in the results

  • Tutors whose teaching area includes the address you typed. Each tutor sets in their profile a service radius in kilometers around their own address, and you do not need to choose a radius.
  • Results are ordered from nearest to farthest. Each card shows a distance band ("Up to 2 km", "2-5 km", "5-10 km", "10-20 km" or "Over 20 km"), not an exact distance.
  • If you ticked "Also show online lessons", tutors who teach online are added too, even if they are far away.
  • The map shows an approximate location only. A tutor's exact address is not shown anywhere.

What you see on a tutor card

The title "Private teacher" (the name is hidden until you reveal it), a rating and number of reviews (or "New"), "On the portal since ...", a short headline the tutor wrote, subjects, grade levels, area, a price range (a hint only, not a final price) and how they teach: "Online lessons", "At the student's home" or "At the teacher's place". Tapping the card opens the tutor page with the full description and a map.

How to get in touch: revealing details

Contact details are hidden until you ask for them. On the card or the tutor page there are buttons: "Reveal name", "Reveal phone", "Reveal WhatsApp" and "Reveal email". A button appears only if the tutor entered the detail (for example "Reveal email" appears only for a tutor who entered a contact email). If a detail was not entered, the message "The teacher has not provided this detail." appears.

What happens when you tap:

  1. Before the reveal a short ad may appear (marked "Sponsored") with a countdown, for example "You can continue in 5 s". When it ends tap "Close and continue".
  2. The detail appears. Phone and email are links you can tap. For WhatsApp there is an "Open in WhatsApp" link that opens a conversation with a ready message: "Hello, I found you on the student portal and I am interested in lessons".
  3. Revealed details are kept only in the current browser tab, so you do not need to reveal again in the same browsing session.

Phone and WhatsApp are the same number the tutor entered.

Limits and error messages:

  • There is a limit per connection: up to 60 searches and up to 40 reveals an hour. Beyond that you see "Too many reveals from your address. Please try again later."
  • If the ad could not be verified: "We could not verify that the ad was completed. Please try again."

Rating a tutor

  • A reveal never leads to a rating. Only a verified student, one the tutor really taught, can rate: after a lesson the tutor sends a personal link (valid for 30 days, one review per link).
  • On the "Rate the teacher" page choose 1 to 5 stars under "How many stars?", optionally add up to 200 characters, and tap "Submit rating".
  • If the link is wrong, "This link is not valid" appears. If its time passed: "This link has expired". If you already rated: "You have already rated this teacher".

Accessibility and appearance

The portal has an "Accessibility" button with "Increase text size", "Decrease text size", "Reset text size" and "High contrast". At the top you can switch language (Hebrew, English, Russian, Arabic) and switch between light and dark mode.

For tutors: how to appear in the portal

To appear in search you need all of these:

  1. The Professional plan (49.90 ILS a month). The free trial includes it. On the Free plan and the Basic plan you do not appear in the portal.
  2. A subscription in trial, active or "Payment failed" state. A locked or cancelled subscription does not appear.
  3. A filled-in public profile, with the "Show me in the public search portal" switch on.
  4. An address. Without an address you appear only when a student ticks "Also show online lessons" and you teach online.

Filling in the profile

"More" > "Public profile" (the screen title: "Public profile").

  1. Turn on "Show me in the public search portal".
  2. "Short headline": up to 120 characters, for example "Math teacher with 10 years of experience". "About me": free text.
  3. "WhatsApp contact number": the number shown after a student reveals "phone" or "WhatsApp".
  4. "Contact email (optional)": the only email a student can reveal, and it is not your sign-in email. Without such an email the "Reveal email" button does not appear on your card.
  5. "Price hint (a hint only, not a final price)": free text up to 100 characters.
  6. Choose "Subjects", "Grade levels" (Elementary, Middle school, High school, Academic / higher ed) and "How you teach" (Online lessons, At the student's home, At the teacher's place).
  7. "Address": write it in the format "Street, house number, city" with commas. Important: the area shown on the card is the text after the last comma. An address without commas is shown entirely as the area.
  8. "Service radius (km)": from 1 to 100, default 10. Students whose address is inside the radius will see you.
  9. If the map is not accurate you can drag the pin to the exact spot (geocoding in Israel is not perfect).
  10. Tap "Save profile". "Profile saved" appears.

If the address was not found: "We could not locate this address. Try a different wording or drag the pin on the map."

What is on the profile screen

  • "Link to your public page" with the "Copy link" button, to send straight to students.
  • "Portal inquiries this month": how many times your phone, WhatsApp or email were revealed this month.
  • "This is what a student will see": a preview. If the profile is not published yet: "Your profile is not shown in the portal yet. Turn the switch above on to see a preview." and if an address is missing: "Add an address to see how students will find you."
  • "Reviews": the ratings you received. You can tap "Report" on an inappropriate review. The review is hidden from the portal until the owners of the system decide.

What students see and what they do not

  • Before a reveal: no name, no photo, no phone, no WhatsApp and no email. Only subjects, area, distance band, rating and the description you wrote.
  • After a reveal and the end of the ad: only the detail that was revealed.
  • Your exact address is never shown, not even after a reveal. The map shows an approximate location only.
  • In the free texts (headline, "About me") phone numbers, email addresses and links are removed automatically and replaced with three dots.
  • Currently the profile screen has no field for uploading a photo.

Check in order: the plan (Basic and Free do not appear), the subscription (locked or cancelled does not appear), the "Show me in the public search portal" switch, an address and a service radius, and that the student is searching from an address inside your radius. The preview at the bottom of the profile screen shows whether your card is displayed.

The "For teachers" page in the portal

The "For teachers" tab in the portal leads to the page "Join the student portal" with the "Sign up for free" button, which leads to signing up for the tutor app.
